Maverick and Goose, the iconic duo. These partner's in crime are part of the US Navy's Fighter Weapons School Naval Air Station Miramar in San Diego, California, training to become the best fighter pilots in the world.
The whole movie centered around Maverick and Goose being the comedic duo of the Navy but also proving that they are the best of the best. After saving one of his fellow pilots during a real world threat, Maverick and Goose are offered a spot at Top Gun, a program that trains the best of the best fighter pilots. Before they head out, Maverick and Goose go to a bar to celebrate. Maverick and the whole fighter pilot crew comes with; Maverick ends up hitting on a lady, and everyone helps sing "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" to her. Maverick sits with her and they spark a conversation about Maverick being a fighter pilot.
Maverick and Goose arrive at Top Gun and they soon realize one of the instructors is the lady from the bar. The Ladies name is Charlotte Blackwood and Maverick proceeds to hit on her even though she states she "doesn't talk to her students." She was impressed with Maverick and Gooses feat of doing a 14G dive inverted. When she asked what they were doing, they simply reply "communicating, you know, giving him the bird." Maverick and Goose go onto training against faster and more maneuverable jets, just like the enemies. They end up defeating Jester, the simulated "enemy" in this situation. They feel good about themselves and decide to do a victory fly-by the control tower, which is a crime. The program lets it slide and are impressed but very angry about the fly-by.
The movie goes on by Maverick scheduling a date with Charlotte. Maverick and Goose are caught up playing beach volleyball against their rivals Iceman and Slider. Maverick realizes he's late to his date and speeds off on his motorcycle knowing he left Goose behind and forfeiting the volleyball game. He arrives at Charlotte's house and as soon as he gets there he tries to apologize but she stops him. They end up eating dinner and talking about being a pilot and Mavericks dad. Mavericks dad was a legendary fighter pilot but died in combat. He leaves Charlotte hanging by leaving saying he needs to shower.
Maverick and Charlotte meet again in the elevator and talk about Mavericks fighter jet encounter is very valuable to her work and says she usually doesn't invite students to her home. The movie goes on with Maverick and Goose learning strategies on how to fight enemies. During one of their real world threat situations, Maverick and Goose go up against an enemy and they lose control of the jet. The end up having to eject and when they do Maverick successfully ejects but Goose hits the canopy top and breaks his neck, killing him. Maverick is picked up by a helicopter and taken home. Maverick mourns Gooses death thinking that it's all his fault.
Later in the movie, there is an actual threat where the Navy needs Mavericks help. Mavericks captain, Viper, says he would be honored to fly with him on this mission. They agree and fly out to sea to destroy the enemy. In the end they destroy the enemy and they get to go home.
All in all, Top Gun is a classic movie and I've loved it since a kid. It sometimes got boring in the middle when it was just Maverick and Goose learning. I give Top Gun an 8 out of 10. Due to it being a comedy and an action film, it really catches my attention. I think this is a great throwback movie for everyone to watch.
